ProofSnap is a Chrome and Edge extension that captures a web page as court-admissible evidence in one click. Each capture carries a SHA-256 hash, an RSA-4096 digital signature and a Bitcoin blockchain timestamp, which supports authentication under FRE 901(b)(9) in the United States and carries the Article 41(2) presumption of accuracy in the European Union.
Three capture options: single page, multi-tab browsing session (with per-tab forensic packages), or signed video proof (Auto, Manual, or Session-wide screen recording). Every capture includes a SHA-256 cryptographic hash, RSA-4096 digital signature, Bitcoin blockchain timestamp via OpenTimestamps, and a Provenance Certificate with 8 integrity checks for deepfake detection. Enterprise plans add eIDAS-qualified timestamps issued by Disig a.s., a qualified trust service provider on the EU Trusted List under Regulation (EU) No 910/2014, which carries the Article 41(2) presumption of accuracy of date and time. An evidence package is built to meet the authentication requirement that courts apply to digital evidence, for example FRE 901(b)(9) in the United States. Pricing starts at $8.99/month with a 7-day free trial requiring a credit card. Used by lawyers, short-term rental hosts, copyright enforcement firms, and compliance teams in 23 countries.

In US v. Vayner and Griffin v. State, courts refused to admit social media printouts for want of authentication. There are three recurring grounds.
File timestamps can be changed in seconds. Without a blockchain or eIDAS-qualified timestamp, you can't prove when you captured it.
Any screenshot can be edited in 10 seconds with AI. In Sept 2025, a California judge dismissed a case after discovering deepfaked video evidence. Without a SHA-256 hash, there's no way to prove yours is real.
Who captured it? When? On what device? How was it stored? Screenshots don't answer any of these questions. Under FRE 901 in the United States, digital evidence must be authenticated before a court will consider it. In the EU, a qualified electronic time stamp under eIDAS Article 41(2) is presumed accurate as to date, time and integrity.

Verifiable without us.
Most web-evidence tools force you to depend on them. ProofSnap evidence is self-verifiable: anyone with the ZIP can confirm authenticity using open standards (SHA-256, OpenTimestamps, eIDAS), with or without ProofSnap continuing to exist.
| ProofSnap | Page Vault / Pagefreezer | Notary / Wayback Machine | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Verifiable without the vendor? | Yes, SHA-256 + OpenTimestamps work forever | No, verification requires their portal | No, depends on archive availability |
| What if the vendor disappears? | Evidence still valid | Evidence becomes hard to defend | Web archive pages can be removed on request |
| Independent verification by an opposing expert | Any IT expert, in 60 seconds | Requires vendor cooperation | Requires manual screenshot |
| Cryptographic proof in the file itself | Yes, open standards (SHA-256, OTS, eIDAS) | Proprietary format | None |
“Its merit is based on it being self-verifiable, and not necessarily dependent on the credit or level of trust afforded to the company or institution behind it.”

Independent legal opinion · 21 April 2026
The opinion was prepared by SEDLAKOVA LEGAL s.r.o. (Brno, Czech Bar Association, Company ID 05669871) under EU law (Regulation 910/2014, eIDAS) with reference to Czech civil procedure. Cross-references to the US Federal Rules of Evidence (FRE 901, 902(13)-(14), proposed and the English Civil Procedure Rules (CPR 32, 35) were added by the ProofSnap team to orient common-law readers.
FRE 901 · FRE 902(13)-(14) · CPR 32 · eIDAS Art. 41
ProofSnap outputs are usable as means of evidence in civil, criminal and administrative proceedings. Authentication satisfied under FRE 901 / 902 in the US, CPR 32 in the UK, and free evaluation of evidence in EU systems, reinforced by US case law (Vayner, Lorraine v. Markel, Mendones).
Notarial deed · Sworn declaration
The opinion describes a ProofSnap output as “a suitable and economical alternative for demonstrating an electronic record, which complements or replaces a screenshot”. Notarial certification and sworn declarations (US $200-500, UK £200-800) require waiting time during which content can disappear; ProofSnap captures immediately with cryptographic integrity.
eIDAS Art. 41(2) · Regulation (EU) 910/2014
The qualified eIDAS timestamp issued by Disig a.s., a qualified trust service provider on the EU Trusted List, carries the presumption of accuracy of the date and time it indicates and of the integrity of the data it is bound to, under Article 41(2) of the eIDAS Regulation. The presumption covers date, time and integrity, not the content as a whole.
“The outputs of the ProofSnap service are, from the perspective of Czech procedural law and the EU legal framework, generally usable as means of evidence in any type of proceedings.”
Conclusion of the legal opinion, SEDLAKOVA LEGAL s.r.o., 21 April 2026
The opinion is publicly accessible, with no registration required. The conclusions express the legal view of the author and do not constitute binding legal advice.
Under Article 41(2) of EU Regulation 910/2014, a qualified electronic time stamp enjoys a presumption of the accuracy of the date and time it indicates and of the integrity of the data it is bound to. The presumption covers date, time and integrity, not the content as a whole.

Regular screenshots can be challenged in court because they lack proof of when they were taken and whether they've been altered. Courts increasingly require authentication under rules like FRE 901/902 (US) or equivalent rules in other jurisdictions.
ProofSnap addresses these challenges by creating a forensic evidence package that includes: a SHA-256 cryptographic hash proving the content hasn't been modified, a digital signature for authenticity, a blockchain timestamp proving when the capture occurred, and full metadata (URL, browser info, TLS certificate). This makes your screenshot significantly more defensible than a plain image file.
ProofSnap uses three layers of cryptographic protection:
Together, these mechanisms create a chain of integrity that proves the evidence is authentic, unaltered, and was captured at a specific point in time.
The eIDAS 2 regulation (EU 2024/1183) will be fully rolled out by the end of 2026, establishing stricter standards for electronic identification, digital signatures, and qualified electronic timestamps across all EU member states.
Under Article 41, qualified electronic timestamps enjoy a legal presumption of the accuracy of the date and time they indicate and of the integrity of the data to which the timestamp is linked. The presumption covers date, time and integrity; whether the underlying evidence is admitted remains a matter for national procedural law.
ProofSnap's cryptographic proofs align with eIDAS 2 requirements: SHA-256 hashing for data integrity, RSA-4096 digital signatures for authenticity, and blockchain timestamps via OpenTimestamps for independent time verification. This makes ProofSnap evidence packages suitable for legal proceedings in the United States and across the EU.
Forensic mode is an opt-in capture depth included in the Professional, Enterprise and Company plans (not in Essential or the SnapPacks). A standard capture documents what the page showed. Forensic mode also documents how the browser got it, by archiving the entire network layer of the load:
Every one of those files is hashed into the RSA-4096 signed manifest, so the OpenTimestamps blockchain anchor and the eIDAS qualified timestamp cover the network archive exactly as they cover the screenshot.
Reach for it when the transport itself is in dispute: a phishing redirect chain, a resource served from a CDN that later changed, a paywall or geoblock you need to prove, or a certificate that expired after the capture. To record all of that, Chrome reloads the page under the DevTools protocol and displays its standard "being debugged" banner for the duration of the capture. The screenshot, HTML and DOM text are taken before that reload, so your authenticated view of the page is preserved as you saw it.
